At some point today, it occured to me that my posts would always have a title that was one day ahead of the content if I always post at night after arriving in a new destination. So, instead of calling this post Vicksburg, MS (where we are), instead I will call it West Point, MS (where we were today).
Of course, we weren’t only in West Point, we were also in Columbus (at Mississippi University for Women), in Starkville (at Mississippi State), in Tupelo (at the house where Elvis Presley was born), and in a very small town to see some amazing people that I am semi-related to. For their privacy I will not name them, but they make the most amazing carmel cake, so if you know the World Champion Carmel Cake Maker, that’s her. We just call her Puddin’.
We spent more time than we expected sampling the carmel cake, so we didn’t arrive in Vicksburg until late, however, we will be here for 2 days so hopefully will be able to squeeze everything in. My family has a history with the Shirley House which is on the Vicksburg National Military park, so we will tour that area tomorrow. I’m also hoping to eat at Walnut Hills, a fabulous restaurant that my grandmother was a big fan of. And, of course, we will try to have some catfish, though the place we went in my youth has closed down now. We shall try to find a new one.
For now, that is all I have to say, except . . . I’m incredibly thankful to have wonderful people in my life. Even if I don’t get to see them as often as I would like, it’s good to know that they are there. Thanks to everyone that I will get to see and to those I recently was able to catch up with.
Ciao for now.
