Yesterday, we started the day in Ft. Stockton, TX and ended it in Carlsbad, NM. In between those locations we saw cows, oil rigs, scrub brush, and some caverns. Of these, the most exciting was (by far) the caverns.
Okay, there is a little joke in there, but I don’t mean it to sound like the caverns were boring. They are actually pretty amazing. It’s just that this part of the country is very flat and doesn’t offer much beyond the beautiful sunsets.
The caverns were amazing. It’s a place that is similar to the Grand Canyon in that pictures do not do it justice. You have to stand there and see it with your own eyes to understand the scope of what it is. These massive caverns were discovered by a rancher James White in the early 1900s. It’s amazing to think what must have gone through his mind when he first entered them. Probably something like, “. . . . wow!”
After the caverns, we took a short drive to the town of Carlsbad for the night. It was pretty early, so we went to the local grocery store for some water and a nice local beer. If you are in New Mexico and looking for a local beer, try the Pepe Loco from Santa Fe Brewing Company. Great stuff, similar to Corona, and local!
Cheers! Now time to relax with a great movie.
Ciao for now!
