Quick drive from Sunset to here this morning. We arrived in Helen shortly after noon and were able to quicky check in to the hotel (thank you early check-in), and jump on a tube for a nice tube ride on the river.
The hotel is right in the downtown area so it is incredibly close to everything. After a few easy word with the front desk, we did a little drive to find the tubes and we were off!
The river tube ride was a little more adventurous than the one in Ginnie Springs, FL earlier this trip. We opted for the “no poles” option which meant we had to do some aggressive maneuvering to avoid a few rocks and shallow spots in the river. The fact that we didn’t avoid them all added to the fun as there were no bruises left by any collisions. No blood, no foul.
After the tube ride we took a break in the hotel until 7:30pm when we went out for a walk and nice dinner. Did I mention that we also had a great German lunch? First stop in town (before hotel!) was to have some bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzel and beer. Ohh yes, carbs, carbs, meat and beer. All of my favorite food groups. Dinner was more of the same, but at a different (but equally delicious) place a closer walk to the hotel.
And good times were had by all.
Only regret? We were not able to come here last Christmas with our parents as we had hoped. Darn you COVID!
One nice thing? There were very few mask in evidence today. Only worn by the servers in some restaurants, but not required of any customers. Nice to see the world returning to normal, one step at a time.
Thanks for reading this! We wish you were here!
Ciao for now.
