After a couple amazing days in Michigan with Valeria’s friends (now my friends as well), we drove south to Nashville. This stop was mostly for Vale to see a specific store, but it ended up having much more than just that.
When we arrived in Nashville it was about 7pm, so we decided to go into town just to have a look. Vale had found a little bar via an internet search and we were happily surprised to stumble into the very lively downtown Nashville party scene. It reminded me of a miniature Las Vegas. I had heard that comparison before but somehow forgotten it as I have never visited Nashville. After our one night, seeing the party buses full of drunken people (especially during the craziness of the end of COVID times) I would say the comparison to Las Vegas is accurate.
The bar we went to was Robert’s Western World and it was amazing. Their band for the evening was Kelley’s Heroes and they did not disappoint. Here is a little sample of the amazing performance that we were able to see in a tiny little bar on the Nashville Strip. Oh – and my Jalapeno burger was pretty amazing as well.
The next day we visited the store Vale wanted to see. The store is one of 3 stores created by the actor who played Cooter on the TV Series “Dukes of Hazzard“. He has created something called Cooter’s Place which is a store/museum of memorobilia from the TV Series. He now has 3 different stores dedicated to the show, but this is the one in Nashville. Was a wonderful little walk down memory lane and we enjoyed the place and the very friendly people there.
On the drive down to Nashville, I was reminded that the Corvette car is built nearby in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Because I have a wonderful wife, she agreed that we could drive 1 hour from Nashville the next day and visit the Corvette Museum. This museum is dedicated to the Corvette and it sits across the highway from a racetrack where you can rent and drive a new Corvette. It’s very close to heaven for a guy like me, so I had a wonderful morning wandering around my version of mecca. We hadn’t pre-booked the car rental, so we weren’t able to race the car around the track, but someday I will get myself a little more organized and be able to do that as well. Regardless, I had a wonderful morning. Thank you Vale!
After Cooter’s Place and the Corvette Museum, we headed further south and far east to a small town in South Carolina. I have a cousin who recently bought a nice little “cabin in the woods” with his wife. They were nice enough to invite us to stay for a couple days and so we gladly accepted the offer. It’s a wonderful little corner of paradise and has become their version of a COVID-escape vehicle. They have 2 dogs who enjoy the huge backyard and, after living full-time in Charleston, SC for a few years, is a nice break from the city life.
So today is our last day here and tomorrow we will head to Helen, GA. This is a little town that some friends had told us about a few years ago and Vale has been wanting to go there ever since. While we have been forced to limit the number or places we visit on this trip, and we have even cut a few priority stops due to lack of time, this town was never in danger of being cut. As a lover of German food (especially the mustard and bratwurst), I’m looking forward to our time there.
And that’s about it! Hope you are all doing well.
Ciao for now.
